OD Consultation Skills. Organization Development Network of WNY September 2013 Meeting Announcement

OD Consultation Skills

Presented by Barbara Benedict Bunker, Ph.D.

Meeting Overview:

Barbara will engage the group in practicing “The Consulting Cycle” which is a model of the first steps in an OD consultation process including entry, diagnosis and contracting. This activity was developed by Billie Alban one of the first independent women OD consultants and an early winner of the OD Network Lifetime Achievement Award.

It is based in part on the work of Peter Block as well as her own experience.

It has been used as a core process in the Columbia University Principles & Practices of OD Program since the late 1970s. It is useful as a basic process in understanding OD consultation. Experienced consultants find it an interesting way to think about their own practice. There are usually elements that are routine in our practice and often issues we either avoid or find difficult.

Reviewing the whole model makes it possible to think about strengthening our own capacities.

Our session will involve a practice of the model that everyone can participate in. Then we will reflect on our experience with it and examine the assumptions that underlie it. If there is time, we can form some subgroups to discuss how to handle dilemmas that arise in this phase of consultation.
