Creativity and Creative Thinking: Core Leadership Skills

Presenters: Gerard Puccio, Marie Mance

Meeting Overview:

The fact that we live in an increasingly complex world is undeniable. What is shocking is that most business leaders, according to a global study conducted by IBM, are not confident that they have the skills to lead in times of such unprecedented change. The same 1500 plus executives were asked what skills would be most useful to them as leaders over the next five years; they spoke with a resounding voice ¬– CREATIVITY. Numerous other reports concur. Creativity and creative thinking are now considered to be core leadership skills. Further, the key to innovation, which organizations world-wide are seeking, is the ability to think differently, to approach problems in unique ways and to respond to rapid change; in other words, creativity and creative thinking.

Participants will walk away from this workshop with:

  • a deeper understanding of the contribution creative thinking makes to leadership effectiveness;
  • an increased awareness of their own creative leadership abilities; and
  • insight into how to help organizations move to greater levels of innovation by enhancing their creative thinking skills.

Gerard J. Puccio is Department Chair and Professor at the International Center for Studies in Creativity, Buffalo State; a unique academic department that offers the world’s only Master of Science degree in creativity.

Marie Mance is Associate Director of the International Center for Studies in Creativity at Buffalo State College. In this role she manages special projects of strategic importance, facilitates Center initiatives and provides leadership for a variety of administrative functions.
