Organization Development for Capacity Building and Defining Your Value Through Data. OD case study and process sharing with Mike Cardus

Organization Development Network of Western New York Organization Development for Capacity Building and Defining Your Value Through Data. OD case study and process sharing with Mike Cardus What is it? In 2013, the ODN of WNY met with the Health Foundation of Western and Central NY to discuss organization development consultants to be a part of a 2-year OD process called GetSET. GetSET is a two-year, team-based approach to capacity building to help mid-sized health, behavioral health, and human services organizations strengthen their internal infrastructure while identifying their value proposition and responding to new business opportunities. (https://hfwcny.org/program/getset/) Organizations invited to participate in GetSET receive limited capacity building grants while: • Working with an organizational development consultant for two years; • Completing an online organizational self-assessment to measure the organization’s strengths in six core competencies; • Development and implementing a capacity-building plan based on assessment results; • Participating in group education sessions and peer learning with other GetSET organizations. In this workshop, Mike Cardus one of the GetSET consultants will share OD processes, tools, outcomes, challenges, and what is sustaining within the organizations that worked with Mike. While this OD process was with non-profit organizations, Mike has used the same tools and methods with for-profit, government, and military clients. The content shared applies to most organizations. Why does this matter? Within the GetSET process, an area that was beneficial to the OD consultants was the external evaluation company contracted to evaluate and determine what is working and not working within the process. The evaluators proved to be a valuable piece to inform the consultants and organizations in the design and implementation. In this workshop, Mike will share the evaluator's reports and how the feedback was used to improve the organizations. We will discuss, explore, critique, and find ways to apply the OD work within your organization. What are the areas of focus? In this interactive and discussion-based workshop we will focus on: a. Planning and implementing a 2-year organization development process, with the expectation that the organization will continue the work when the consultant contract has ended. b. Determining what areas to focus on, and how to support progress within a busy organization. c. OD tools and methods that stemmed from the GetSET work. d. How the organizations that went through GetSET are continuing to apply the OD work. How will we make progress? In our time together you will gain: a. Several OD tools that can be used within your organization to enhance capacity and determine the value your managers, teams, people, and organization bring to customers and how those customers are better off from your work. b. Ideas for how to evaluate and increase what is working plus decrease what is not working within an OD process. c. Understanding, discussion, and knowledge sharing of how to frame and support OD processes within your organization. About Mike Cardus: What Mike Believes: Some consultants feel as if they are heroes called in to fix something broken, like the knight on the horse. That is quite tragic – to treat people as if they are broken when the teams, leaders, and people have done so much to get to where they are. Mike forms a partnership with all clients to accept where you are, listen to what’s working and understand what isn’t to create a process with you to improve your company’s profitability. He believes that all work he implements is intended to help your organization through helping you. Mike wants to help you and ensures the organization benefits just as much.
